IDS Designer Awards Best Charity Project

IDS Designer Awards Best Charity Project

On January 24th, the annual Interior Design Society National Conference was held in Las Vegas, NV.  I am excited to announce that the Dallas-Ft. Worth chapter, of which I am honored to be this year’s President, was presented with two prestigious awards. We were so grateful to be recognized for all of the hard work that we invested last year!

The first was for Our Dwell with Dignity project which won best charity event category.

Dwell with Dignity is a non-profit group of Interior Designers and volunteers dedicated to creating soothing, inspiring homes for families struggling with homelessness and poverty. We chose to sponsor this group in Dallas and this was our 3rd Dwell project.

What we do is “adopt” a family and a run-down apartment unit that we renovate, furnish and stock for a family to “call home.”  We do this as they complete a lineup of Dwell with Dignity life skills and training classes.   In this project, we assisted a family of five to have a beautiful new home.   It took five months of planning, gathering donations, physical labor and sweat equity to bring this project to it’s successful reveal. We are very proud of the fact that there were over 30 interior designers and trade partners involved. It truly was a labor of love and gave a rewarding feeling to all involved.

The second award we won was for best Networking event.

This was given for our 1st annual Design Mix event held back in April, which had sole purpose of networking with interior designers from industry organizations outside of IDS.  We, along with several vendor partners, created and hosted this high energy event with food, drink, music and door prizes (all donated from our vendors).  Our hope in this event was that others would see what a warm and welcoming group we are and have incentive to join us.  It had an astonishing response!
